Lifetime’s Olga Villaverde Learns the Dirty Dancing Lift in New Series Broadway Balances America

May 29th, 2014 | By Ryan Gilbert

You can picture it: Frances "Baby" Houseman bounds off of the stage and runs into the arms of Johnny Castle who lifts the once-shy young lady into the air while "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" plays. The lift scene from Dirty Dancing is the kind of thing performance dreams are made of and the iconic film has been transformed into a delightful musical, which will launch its national tour in Washington, D.C. on August 26. Lucky for us, Lifetime's popular magazine-style morning show The Balancing Act and Broadway Across America have teamed up to educate and inspire audiences everywhere with behind-the-scenes access to touring musicals in the new five-part series Broadway Balances America. Host Olga Villaverde recently learned the famous lift with an assist from Dirty Dancing—The Classic Story on Stage's associate choreographer David Scotchford. Check out our exclusive sneak peek of Olga getting ready to do some "dirty dancing," and be sure to check out the full segment this fall on Lifetime. Also, click here to find out more about Broadway Balances America and the other musicals that will be featured on the new series, including Annie, Motown The Musical, Newsies and Pippin.
